Allen Signs Gary Steffes - The Man, The Player, The Statistics

Gary Steffes

The Allen Americans have signed forward Gary Steffes for the 2014-2015 season. Gary will be starting his fifth year as a professional having played for the Tulsa Oilers (2010-2013) and for the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL) this past season. A 2012-13 nominee for the CHL’s Man of the Year Award, Steffes gives his time and talents to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). He works specifically with FCA Hockey, a group that travels the world sharing the gospel through hockey camps and clinics and has traveled to Turkey, where he assisted in growing the game of hockey by building a foundation for a youth hockey program. He played college hockey at Miami University (Ohio) and earned a degree in Kinesiology, Health and Exercise Science. If you would like to get an idea of the character and story of Gary Steffes take a look at the YouTube video at the end of this post, "Gary Steffes, 2014 Bakersfield Prayer Breakfast Keynote Speaker."

Gary Steffes is a big guy who is excellent on faceoffs  and has 164 points (79 goals 85 assists) in 229 games played in the CHL & ECHL. He is a good two way player who finishes his checks and pursues the puck with gusto, but also with intelligence.

August 15th, 2014 by Tommy Daniels
Allen, TX—The Allen Americans and Head Coach Steve Martinson announced the signing today of Forward Gary Steffes to the 2014-2015 roster.
The 6’2, 210 lb. Center from Grand Blanc, MI, attended college at Miami of Ohio University (2006-2010) where he led his team to a regular season championship during his senior year.
“I always thought he was a really solid all-around player who stays in good shape.” said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. “Gary works hard and will be a great fit here. He was always creating offense when he played against Allen.”
Steffes began his pro career with the Tulsa Oilers in 2010, where he was named to the CHL All-Rookie Team, netting 19 goals and 24 assists in his first pro season. Over his three seasons with the Oilers, he averaged just over 20 goals a season, scoring 62 total and earning 132 points. He spent last season with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL, where he scored 21 goals and contributed 44 points.
“I’m really looking forward to being a part of the Allen Americans,” said Steffes. “Having played against Allen in the past, I know how tough this building is to win in. I had quite a few opportunities this off-season, but Allen was the best fit for me and it’s where I want to play. I feel very blessed to be a part of this squad and I look forward to putting on the red sweater.”
