Allen Americans 2013-2014 Training Camp Roster - Names, #'s & Details

Training camp for the Americans and the entire CHL starts today with the Americans first on ice session starting at 10:00 am at the Allen Event Center (AEC) in the community rink. The public is welcome at all training camp practices.

- There are 29 players on the roster including nine that played for the Americans last year. There will be four goalies, eight defensemen, and seventeen forwards in camp.

- Those not on the training camp roster but announced as having signed with the Americans during the offseason are:
*Alex Bourret - decided to stay home and play in a Quebec League (LNAH) where you can get paid to play hockey but also hold down a full time job.
*Chris Doyle - injured during the summer (playing softball) and not yet medically cleared to play
*Ryley Grantham - made the roster for the AHL Springfield Falcons
*Jim McKenzie - released from the team

- There are four players on the roster that played for the Fort Worth Brahmas last year.

- It is unusual to have four goalies in camp so there must me some unique circumstances related to one of the goalies.

- There are four players in camp who are signed with the Louisiana Ice Gators of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) which is in Lafayette. These are players that if they don't make the team might be candidates for short call ups during the season because of the close proximity to Allen.

- Included on the roster is a player who has a brother playing in the league and a player who is friends with former Americans captain Tobias Whelan.

Here is the 2013-2014 Allen Americans training camp roster:

#1 Brad Fogal

Brad played for Fort Worth last year and seemed to always play his best against Allen. His overall GAA was 2.72 and his save percentage was 90.2%. Brad under went shoulder surgery in the off season.

#3 Tyler Ludwig

Tyler returns for his third season with the Americans. He led all defensemen in the CHL during the regular season with 40 assists and was second in the league in points with 51.

#6 Mike Berube

Mike returns for his fourth season with the team. A stay at home defenseman who leads by example many believe he would make a great captain of the team.

#7 Daniel Tetrault

A former draft choice of the Montreal Canadiens, Tetrault has a long and storied career in hockey and will be beginning his 14 year as a professional. He decided to play in Allen this year because he had moved to North Texas with his wife, Tabayia, who owns a boutique (La Belle Boutique) in downtown Plano. Daniel has been a captain or alternate captain with most of the teams he has played on so with his experience look for him to have a leadership role with this team.

#9 Charles Lachance

A rookie who finished his college career at the University of Wisconsin - Stout last year. He led his team in penalty minutes the last three years. His major was construction management.

#10 Mackenzie Micks

Height 5.11 -- Weight 195
Another rookie who just finished his college career at York University (Toronto) with a major in kinesiology and health sciences. Micks is from the same hometown as former Allen Americans captain Tobias Whelan. They are friends and skate together and actually bear a resemblance to each other. There style of play is also similar as they are both two way players good on special teams. The number assigned to Mackenzie is no coincidence as he is wearing Whelan's number 10.

#11 Phil Fox

Phil is another one of the Ft. Worth contingent and he is starting his third year as a pro. He had 21 goals last year in 44 games.

#12 Matt Robertson

 Robertson is one of the players in camp from the Louisiana IceGators. He led the IceGators in scoring last year with 27 goals and 29 assists in 56 games.

#16 Robert Short

Short has played for the IceGators for the last three seasons. He is a play maker who led his team in assists last year.

#17 Chad Thibodeau

Left Wing -- shoots L

 Chad is a 20 year old rookie who still has his overage year available in junior hockey. A hard nosed, gritty player who is not afraid to drop the gloves. He has had 18 fights in the last two years with his junior team, Sudbury Wolves.

#18 Kale Kerbashian

Kale starts his first full season with the Americans after arriving mid season last year. He attended the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL) training camp and is a prime candidate for AHL call ups during the season. His six goals and eight assists during the playoffs last year are an indication of the important scoring role he will have with the team this year.

#19 Alex Lavoie

Alex is a rookie who played one game with the Americans during the playoffs last year. A prolific scorer in juniors he is definitely a candidate for CHL rookie of the year. Last year, playing for two different junior teams, Lavoie had 36 goals and 60 assists in 63 games. Lovoie recently attended the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL) training camp.

#22 Jamie Schaafsma

Jamie is back for his second year with the Americans. He is starting his tenth year as a professional and has played hockey all over the world as a pro and as a member of the Netherlands national team. A proven winner, Jamie has been to the championship finals for the last five years, playing for four different teams. He had 29 goals and 30 assists for the Americans last year in 85 games.

#24 Trevor Ludwig

Trevor starts his seventh professional season and third with the Americans. A former NHL draft choice of the Dallas Stars, he had a total of 9 goals and 24 assists last year before breaking his jaw in the finals against Wichita. An experienced defenseman Trevor has 144 games played at the AHL level.

#25 Chris Wilson

Another proven goal score from the SPHL, Chris has signed to play for the IceGators for the upcoming season.  He played for the SPHL Pensacola Ice Flyers in 2010-2012 and led the team in scoring both years.

#26 Spencer Asuchak

Spencer is a rookie who played last year for Mount Royal University. Prior to last year he had a stellar career playing junior in Western Hockey League (WHL). He led his team in scoring in the 2011-2012 season. With his height and great reach he might remind some of Bruce Graham on the ice.

#27 Darryl Bootland

Not much to say other than the fan favorite is back along with his beard. Beginning his 12th year as a professional and second with the Americans, Booter (his preferred name) will be looked upon for veteran leadership. A former draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings, Bootland has 32 NHL games on his resume. He had 51 points (22 goals, 29 assists) during the regular season last year in addition to his on ice leadership. Probably the fans favorite to be named captain this year.

#28 Kirk Byczynski

Another of the IceGators contingent, last year was Kirk's first year as a professional. He was voted both rookie of the year as well as best defenseman for the IceGators.

#29 Bryan Pitton

Height 6.03 -- Weight 205
Bryan starts his sixth year as a professional and has 17 games in the AHL. He has a brother (Jason) who is a forward and will be playing for the Brampton Beast this year. They played together last year in Great Britain for the Fife Flyers. Bryan is a former NHL draft choice of the Edmonton Oilers. His GAA last year was 2.89 and save percentage was 90.7%.

#30 Phil Cook

Height 6.03 -- Weight 190
Cook is a rookie who just finished his collegiate career at Minnesota State University (Mankato). His hometown is Wheaon Illinois. He was a four year letterman at MSU put his playing time was limited last year due to injury. In 10 games his GAA was 3.54 and his save percentage was 87.4%. His major was sports management.

#32 Jarret Lukin

Height 5.11 -- Weight 185
Mr. Allen American returns for his fifth season. Always a fan favorite who was voted the best defensive forward and the best penalty killer in the CHL last year. Jarret is starting his eighth professional season. While lauded for his defensive skills Lukin is a consistent 20 goal scorer in the CHL.

#39 Corey Tamblyn

Corey is a third year professional who split time in the SPHL (25 games ) and ECHL (25 games) last year. 

#41 Peter Cintala

Defense -- shoots L
Born -- Kosice, Slovakia

Peter is an interesting camp participant as he is from Slovakia and played in the Federal Hockey League (FHL) last year for the Dayton Demonz. He is a big, physically impressive, stay at home defensman who isn't afraid to drop the gloves. He had 51 points (11 goals, 31 assists) last year. Cintala has spent most of his career playing in Slovakia but also played in France in 2010-2012. It will be difficult to make this team with the veterans we have on defense but Peter could be a candidate for that seventh defenseman.

#42 Ross Rouleau

Ross starts his sixth year as a professional and first with the Americans. He was a member of the Ft. Worth Brahmas for the last five years. A real success story as Ross originally made the Ft. Worth team through an open tryout and through his hard work made it to captain of the team. A great teammate, he will add on and off ice leadership to this team.

#43 John Snowden

Another member of the Fort Worth contingent, John is a goal scorer starting his tenth professional season and first with the Americans. In addition to scoring numerous goals against the Americans last year John had a five goal game against the Arizona Sundogs. He had 42 points (23 goals, 19 assists) in 41 games for Ft. Worth last year. John was recently selected to the hall of fame of his junior team (Lincoln Stars).

#51 Andrew Harrison

Harrison is beginning his third professional season and all of his time has been in the SPHL playing for three different teams. 

# 71 Trevor Hendrikx

Defense -- shoots R

Height 6.02 -- Weight 220
Trevor returns to Allen for the third year having played in Allen last year and also part of the year in the 2001-2012 season.  Another veteran, he is starting his eighth year as a professional. He is a former draft choice of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Trevor has a long relationship with Coach Martinson as he played for him in Elmira (ECHL) in 2007-2008. Hendrikx had a great playoff in the run to the championship with three goals and seven assists including the goal that tied the seventh game in the finals with 2:19 left in the game.


#91 Jonathan Lessard

Right Wing -- shoots L
Born -- St-Eustache, PQ

Jonathan is a combination of grit and skill. He can score goals and will be tough to play against. After his junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Lessard played for three different teams in 2012-2013. He started out playing in the rough and tumble LNAH in Quebec. He also played 31 games for two different ECHL teams. Lessard has a great chance to be a vital part of the Americans team. He is buddies with Alex Lavoie as they train together in the off season. This "French Connection" will be a popular duo on and off the ice.

#00 Eric Levine

Goalie
Born -- Wheeling, IL

Height 6.03 -- Weight 180
 Eric has not yet been assigned a number so we will see what it is at practice. He is a rookie who just finished his collegiate career at Robert Morris University. He is a psychology major and was selected academic all conference three different years.  He played in 35 games in his senior year with a GAA of 2.55 and a save percentage of 92.9%.



The team has a short training camp as they have to set the 19 man roster by October 17th and they start their 66 game schedule against the Wichita Thunder on October 19th. The home opener is October 20th also against the Thunder. There will not be any preseason games but there will be an intrasquad game on Saturday (October 12th) at the AEC. It is open to the public and will include a skills contest. Should be fun. Doors open at 2:00 pm.
